Facelift without a scalpel

Ultherapy®, also known as HIFU lifting (HIFU = high-intensity focused ultrasound) is a non-invasive ultrasound lifting procedure that is particularly safe thanks to the patented “DeepSEE” visualization process. Both imaging and treatment are carried out simultaneously by ultrasound. This type of real-time visualization enables the treating physician to work particularly precisely and efficiently.

Ultherapy® is the only FDA-approved non-invasive lifting procedure that uses micro-focused ultrasound and imaging. The FDA approval means that the efficacy and safety of the product has been extensively investigated and tested

What can be treated:

  • Face – similar to a light facelift
  • Neck
  • Décolleté

How does Ultherapy work?

This ultrasound treatment is particularly effective at achieving lasting effects from the inside out, tightening the skin and giving it a long-lasting lift. Micro-focused ultrasound waves pass through the skin without damaging it and work at a depth of up to 4.5 millimetres – in other words, it works in the deep tissue layers that can otherwise only be reached with a scalpel.

The skin responds to the warming and stimulating effect of the treatment by producing new collagen and elastin, and loose collagen fibres contract again. The effect of skin tightening without surgery becomes visible over a period of several months and can continue to improve up to the 6th month. The result is a younger and more contoured appearance.

Things to consider:

The ultrasound can cause a tingling sensation on the skin and the unusual stimulation can irritate the nerves and cause pain that can vary in intensity. Some patients only need an anaesthetic ointment to treat this pain. Others might also need a painkiller or nitrous oxide.

Side effects of ultrasound treatment may include slight swelling and pain, which may persist for a few days after the treatment. Very rarely, bruising or a feeling of numbness occurs, which also subsides after a short time.
