When injecting wrinkles with hyaluronic acid, our focus is always to bring out the client’s natural beauty. Our motto is “less is more” because we have noticed a worrying trend in the field of aesthetic medicine: people often overdo it and inject too much.

No patient will leave our practice with “inflatable boat lips” or exaggeratedly high cheekbones. The aim is to make the patient look refreshed and happy in keeping with their age. We never want our patients to be asked: “Have you had something done?”. Instead, we want them to be asked: “Have you just come back from vacation?”

Recent years have seen a revolution in facial volume fillers. The realisation that led to this revolution is that it is not primarily wrinkles that make us look old. Rather, it is the loss of volume as fat deposits deteriorate and slide downwards. This volume loss creates a pronounced nasolabial fold (the fold between the wing of the nose and the corner of the mouth) and a sad, older-looking expression on the face. New, state-of-the-art fillers can now treat this issue with lasting effects. The first signs of volume loss usually appear around the age of 30.

The new generation of hyaluronic acid fillers can compensate for volume loss. Restoring lost volume provides a visible lifting effect. This tightens the sunken areas of the face. The facial contours are restored. This method is also great for emphasising the cheekbones.

The filling substance is inserted under the skin with a fine needle or cannula and the procedure is almost painless. Like any hyaluronic acid filler, the filling substance is slowly broken down in the tissue. The effect lasts for about 12–18 months.

The following areas of the face can be treated very well with hyaluronic acid:

  • Nasolabial fold (wrinkle between the wing of the nose and the corner of the mouth): depending on the depth of the wrinkle, we have different hyaluronic acids with different levels of cross-linking available. We usually use a blunt cannula to insert the filler. The blunt cannula is gently pushed under the skin through a small hole (which we anaesthetize beforehand), allowing the filler substance to be continuously released.
  • Marionette wrinkle (wrinkle from the corners of the mouth towards the chin): here we also usually use the blunt cannula technique to introduce hyaluronic acid, which can also be used to build up the chin.
  • Corners of the mouth: fillers can lift the corners of the mouth to get rid of any gloomy expression
  • Lip wrinkles: a combination of hyaluronic acid with Botox is the best approach here. Since only very light filling substances can be used in this area (necessary to avoid a “duckbill” effect), the treatment usually has to be carried out in stages.
  • Dark circles: this is a very delicate region where only very experienced injectors should work. Using a fine cannula, a fine hyaluronic acid is injected into the tear trough area. This can provide sensational results. Dr Kristof performs this procedure routinely and has a great deal of experience with it.
  • Cheek augmentation: restoring the volume in the mid-face area results in a beautiful rejuvenation process. As above, the mid-face is often built up by injecting filler using blunt cannulas, or the necessary volume is inserted by precisely injecting hyaluronic acid in the cheekbone area. Cheek augmentation massively improves the overall appearance of the face.
  • Forehead/temples/chin: these areas of the face are also subject to volume loss, and injections in the temples or forehead area can produce fantastic rejuvenation results.
  • Earlobes: especially for older patients who often tend to prefer large, heavy earrings, the earlobe can be restored or built up by injecting hyaluronic acid.
  • Liquid face lift: this term refers to the overall treatment concept. Hyaluronic acid injections are used to substitute volume in the facial area wherever necessary. It is important to respect the natural proportions of the facial area. For people of European descent, for example, the upper lip should never be larger than the lower lip, etc. A combined injection into the cheek area, nasolabial and marionette lines produces a great result that is not far removed from a gentle facelift.
  • Skinbooster: skin stressed by the sun, cigarettes or lifestyle, which can sometimes have wrinkles reminiscent of cigarette paper, improves dramatically with repeated injections.

The following applies to all treatments:

  • Duration: between 15 and 60 minutes.
  • Complications: these treatments are very safe. However, there may be side effects in the form of bruising.
  • The aesthetic result is immediately visible, and you will usually be ready to get on with your usual social life straight away.
  • All filling treatments can be used in combination with Botox or threads, with excellent results.
