Hair loss can be very distressing. Its causes vary. In some cases, hair loss occurs due to stress or nutrient deficiencies. However, it can also be an indication of an underlying medical condition. Certain dermatological diseases of the scalp can also lead to permanent scarring hair loss. Rapid diagnosis and treatment are particularly important in cases of scarring hair loss.
Congenital hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) is the most common type. It causes progressive hair loss with increasing age and can affect women as well as men. Circular hair loss (alopecia areata) is also quite common, even in children.
In addition to the clinical examination of the hair and scalp, we also carry out blood tests, hair root analysis using a digital trichogram and, in rarer cases, a scalp biopsy to clarify the cause.
Treatments we offer include creams and solutions for topical application as well as systemic medication for ingestion.
We also offer PRP therapy (platelet-rich plasma therapy) as a treatment for hair loss. This involves injections of platelet-rich plasma derived from the patient’s own blood along with the important growth factors. This can stimulate the growth phase of the hair follicles. The plasma is obtained by centrifuging a small amount of your blood, which is taken from a vein in your arm.
We use PRP to treat hereditary hair loss (androgenetic alopecia), as well as some other types of hair loss. 4 treatments are usually required. The effectiveness of PRP has been confirmed in clinical studies and a major advantage of this treatment is that it has practically no side effects.
