Small veins on the face and the décolleté area usually occur due to rosacea. The vascular changes cause redness that can be very distressing, and can affect younger and older patients alike.
At the rappjderm skin centre, we use the latest generation of intense pulsed light (IPL) lamps (SWT) from Nordlys Ellipse-Candela to treat unsightly small veins. The red blood pigment in the dilated vessels absorbs the light. This creates heat in the dilated vessels, causing them to close up (sclerosis). The closed veins are then broken down by the body. This treatment can achieve a significant reduction in unwanted redness/veins. The upper layer of the skin (epidermis) remains completely undamaged. However, redness and slight swelling may occur for a maximum of 1–2 days after the treatment.
Usually, 1–3 sessions are required to achieve a good result.
As with most laser treatments, you must not be tanned at the time of treatment and should avoid sun exposure for 2–3 weeks after treatment.
